Thankful for Chores?
Thankful for Chores?
*Sigh* that’s what I thought as I started on yet another load of dirty dishes. They seemed so unending and I was wishing I could be doing something more fun than scrubbing dirty dishes in hot water on an already hot summer day.
But then I realized something important. Doing dishes really wasn’t really too bad. I had a lot to be thankful for in doing them. I had just finished yet another delicious meal lovingly cooked by my Mom. The dishes were evident of that fact. I could be thankful that I had a big load of dishes to do because I could be thankful that I just eaten a meal with my family. There were other people in the world who might not have eaten at all today. I was really fortunate. After that the dishes went more easily and I began to think about what other chores I was thankful for.
Here are my thoughts:
I can be thankful for laundry because it means that I have plenty of clothes to wear.
I can be thankful for beds to make and rooms to clean because it means I have a home to live in.
I can be thankful for fridges to clean because it means that I have food and a cold place to store it in.
So the next time you’re tired of doing the same chores over and over again think about why you can be thankful for them, and then start thanking God for those reasons. Doing that has helped me see things like dishes and laundry in a whole new way!
